Sexual Assault Awareness Month April 2026: A Community Partnership
Denim Day is a global awareness movement that challenges victim-blaming and sends a clear message: sexual violence is never the survivor’s fault. Each year, individuals and communities wear denim to stand in solidarity with survivors and promote accountability, healing, and prevention.
NORA is proud to partner with Banner Bank, our Sexual Assault Awareness Month (SAAM) partner, to host a Denim Day 2026 Community Celebration at Banner Bank in Riverside. Throughout the month of April, Banner Bank has stood alongside NORA in raising awareness, supporting survivors, and amplifying prevention efforts across the community.
As shared by Elgin James, Vice President & Branch Manager at Banner Bank:
“Doing the Right Thing isn't just a slogan at Banner Bank; it's our culture. Supporting the incredible work at NORA with our time and donations is how we put those values into action.”
He also invites the community to stand with survivors on Denim Day:
“Please join Banner Bank as we bring awareness to supporting survivors of sexual assault and standing against violence on National Denim Day, April 29, 2026.”
The Denim Day event offers an opportunity for community members to connect with advocates, engage in meaningful conversations, and access educational resources about survivor-centered services. Guests are encouraged to stop by, wear denim in solidarity, and show support for survivors and prevention efforts in Riverside County.
Attendees will also have the opportunity to support NORA’s HOPE Builder Campaign, which sustains critical advocacy, prevention education, and healing services for survivors throughout Riverside County. By participating in Denim Day and contributing to the HOPE Builder Campaign, community members help turn awareness into lasting action.
Together, we can challenge harmful myths, uplift survivor voices, and continue building hope—during Sexual Assault Awareness Month and all year long.

Brian Mills Jr.
SART Advocate
Brian Mills Jr., our Volunteer of the Year, embodies empathy and forges an emotional bond with survivors as a Sexual Assault Response Team (SART) Advocate. His actions truly matter, as they offer a glimmer of hope to those who believe there is none left, to those who feel utterly hopeless.
Brian serves as a late-night SART advocate, usually working from midnight to 8 a.m., ready to respond to incoming calls. Some nights he receives no calls, while other nights he may manage multiple. Brian emphasizes the significance of ensuring that survivors feel heard, especially when no one else is willing to listen, and he aims to be a voice for those who feel voiceless.
Brian finds fulfillment in volunteering and building relationships with marginalized individuals by offering support and compassion. He empowers survivors to recognize their worth, fostering community and hope through empathy.
We honor Brian Mills Jr. for his selfless support during survivors' challenging times, helping them understand that their experiences do not define their futures. Please congratulate Brian as we celebrate his journey and contributions to RARCC.

Frank Felipe III
Corona Fundamental Intermediate School Counselor
Frank Felipe III began as a guidance counselor at Corona Fundamental Intermediate School (CFIS) in 2012, supporting 1,200 students with a proactive approach. With RARCC, he initiated programs like Be Strong Girls Group and My Strength Guys Club. Following student-led campaigns on sexual assault, incidents decreased, prompting Felipe to seek more external support.
With the assistance of RARCC, students successfully established an anti-sexual assault protocol that received approval from the school district. Frank also noted that children gain valuable communication skills and learn about boundaries through RARCC. Frank engages parents and the wider community in initiatives aimed at supporting survivors and preventing violence by enlisting Yadira Hernandez Buelna, Counselor, and Elizabeth Lozano, Community Liaison, to facilitate workshops for parents.
Frank’s dedication to making a difference, one student at a time, embodies the spirit of unity and empowerment that resides at the heart of our mission. We extend our deepest gratitude to Frank Felipe III, for his unwavering support, and his devotion to combatting sexual assault and domestic violence.
Jane Block Trailblazer Award
Kathy Wright & Dwight Tate
This year, NORA (formerly RARCC) is proud to honor Kathy Wright and Dwight Tate with the 2nd annual Jane Block Trailblazer Award. Their tireless dedication to our mission and unwavering commitment to supporting the families we serve make them exemplary recipients of this recognition.
When NORA faced devastating funding cuts in the governor’s budget, Kathy and Dwight immediately stepped up. Using their longstanding connections and influence, they advocated on our behalf, reaching out to state legislators and ensuring that our essential services remained a priority. Their advocacy was pivotal in securing critical support during a challenging time.
Beyond their efforts to protect funding, Kathy and Dwight have been instrumental in NORA's strategic transformation. As we worked with community stakeholders to rebrand and advance our mission, they rolled up their sleeves and actively participated in strategy sessions, offering thoughtful input and guidance to help shape our future. Their presence in these discussions was invaluable as we transitioned from RARCC to NORA, ensuring we continue to serve victims and survivors with care, outreach, and resilience.
If you spend any time with Kathy and Dwight, it’s clear they have a deep passion for ensuring that children and our most vulnerable populations receive the support they need. With decades of experience as teachers and administrators in the local school systems, they have seen firsthand the urgent need for family resources and support. The stories they’ve encountered through their work with children have not only fueled their commitment but also inspired them to build extensive philanthropic networks to create lasting change.
Kathy and Dwight have also been widely recognized for their philanthropy of heart, soul, and resources. Having received numerous honors for their contributions to the community, their dedication has spanned decades and has touched countless lives.
