Protecting Survivor Services Through State Advocacy

On May 5, the NORA team joined advocates from across California in Sacramento for Policy Day to amplify the voices of survivors and call attention to the urgent need to protect essential survivor services. During meetings with state leaders and partners, we shared firsthand accounts of how funding reductions are impacting local programs at the same time that demand for crisis intervention, counseling, and prevention services continues to grow.
This advocacy matters because policy and funding decisions made at the state level directly determine whether survivors can access timely, life-saving support. Without sustained investment, critical services such as emergency response, counseling, and prevention education are at risk—leaving survivors with fewer options for safety and healing. By participating in Policy Day, NORA works to ensure that survivor experiences inform decision-making, that community needs are not overlooked, and that systems of support remain strong, accessible, and survivor-centered.
